To be honest, I’d never cooked a pot of steamed rice on the stove until I came to the UK as we normally use a rice cooker with a timer instead, which cooks rice perfectly. I am still studying how to cook perfectly steamed rice on the stove as my rice cooker does. So far this is the best, but I will update you once I find a better way!
Ingredients 1 cup (200 ml) Japanese rice (short-grain) 1 cut (200 ml) water
Directions 1. Preparation Put a sieve into a larger bowl and pour the rice in the sieve. Rinse the rice under running water gently with your fingers. Continue rinsing until water runs mostly clear, and drain well. In a pot add the rice and the water, and presoak for 20 minutes.
2. Boil the rice Cover the pot with the lid and bring to a boil over medium heat. If you are unsure of boiling, take the lid off a little to look into it. When it comes to a boil, turn the heat to low and cook further for 10-13 minutes.
3. Steam the rice Turn the heat off and let it steam for 15 minutes with the lit on. 4. Serve Gently mix it before serving.
